The International Center for Human Sciences (CISH) – UNESCO, Byblos organized in partnership with Hanns Seidel Foundation a particularly insightful round-tables on july13-14, 2023 discussing “Women Empowerment in Maritime Leadership: The Blue Humanities Leading the Way to Sustainability”. These panel discussions wouldn’t have been able to come together without the important collaboration with the National Center for Marine Sciences, at the National Council for Maritime Sciences and Technology Institute (MARSATI).

During the opening speech, Dr. Darina Saliba Abi Chedid, Director of CISH-UNESCO and Mr. Kristof Duwaerts, Resident Representative at Hanns Seidel Foundation both highlighted the valuable opportunity to empower women in maritime leadership and that blue humanities are essential to protect the mother Earth. The topics addressed consisted of gender perspective in maritime security, in addition to the empowerment of women in marine research, and lastly, women leading energy coastal systems in energy and marine cultural heritage. A Sightseeing tour and other training sessions were held also at MARSATI.
