CONVENTION INTERNATIONALE DES DROITS DE L’ENFANT
The phoenix rises once again. It directs its wings towards Poitiers in France, where the International Center for Human Sciences (CISH) represented by its Director, Dr. Darina Saliba Abi Chedid participated in the 30th anniversary of UNICEF’s International Convention on children’s rights, “Childrens’ Rights: Progress and challenges for tomorrow”.
On the occasion of the World Arabic Language Day, the President of the Lebanese American University (LAU) Dr. Joseph Jabra and the Director of the International Center for Human Sciences – UNESCO, Dr. Darina Saliba Abi Chedid jointly organized a conference held at the CISH premises on October 17, 2019 entitled “The Arabic Language: Roots, Forms and Globalization”. Several diplomatic, public and academic figures attended the event: Ambassador of South Korea, Qa’imaqam of Byblos Mrs. Natalie Khoury, Secretary General of the World Cultural University Mr. Roger Hani, the President of the Youth Council of the World Cultural University Mr. Sergio Feghali, the President of Byblos Cultural Council Dr. Nawfal Nawfal, the journalist Mr. Marwan Iskandar, Vice President of Student Affairs at LAU Dr. Elise Salem, and the head of the Lebanese Red Cross in Byblos, Mrs. Randa Kallab.
On the occasion of the International Day of Non-Violence, and in line with UNESCO endeavors of promoting a culture of peace, and for the safeguarding of the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together signed by Pope Francis of the Catholic Church and, Grand Imam Al Azhar Ahmad El Tayeb, the international Center for Human Sciences has organized at its headquarters, a conference entitled: « Tolerance: An ethical basis for justice, peace and intercultural dialogue » on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2019, in the presence of H.E. Minister of Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth, Mrs. Violette Safadi, deputy Moustafa Al Husseiny and Qa’imaqam of Byblos Mrs. Nathalie Merheh, the Representative of Hanns Seidel Stiftung, Kristof W. Duwaerts, along with religious and cultural figures and academicians.
In line with UNESCO’s initiatives to enhance the culture of “living together” in Lebanon and worldwide, the International Center for Human Sciences organized a seminar entitled “Implementation of Article 95 of the Lebanese Constitution”.
In the presence of H.E. Ambassador of Spain in Lebanon, Don José María Ferré de La Peña and the participation of LAU – Louis Cardahi Foundation represented by its director Dr. Rachid Chamoun, the International Center for Human Sciences (CISH – Byblos) has organized on September 26, 2019 a cultural day entitled « Intercultural dialogue in the Mediterranean: Iberians-Phoenicians ».
Over the course of 3 days, on June 25, 26 and 27, the International Center for Human Sciences welcomed 165 second-year Lebanese Army students-officers at CISH Center, Byblos, offering them both knowledge-based and recreational activities.
Under the patronage and presence of H.E Minister of Culture Dr. Mohamed Daoud, the International Center for Human Sciences under the auspices of UNESCO and in collaboration with the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) launched its activities and program during a ceremony held on Thursday June 20, 2019.
The International Center for Human Sciences, Byblos, represented by its Director Dr. Darina Saliba Abi Chedid, and the Lebanese American University (LAU) represented by its President Dr. Joseph Jabbra, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Academic, scientific and cultural cooperation, to promote joint cultural and educational collaboration.
The International Center for Human Sciences was delighted to receive today a group of French citizens from the parish community of Saint Catherine of Hombourg (Hombourg-Haut France) in religious tourism in the city of Byblos, accompanied by Reverend Father Samih Raad. Combining religious tourism with archaeological tourism, Dr. Darina Saliba ABI Chedid showed the Center and told them about its history and role, and the significance of its location in one of the oldest cities in the world.
