On the occasion of World Music Day, the International Center for Human Sciences (CISH) – UNESCO, Byblos organized in collaboration with the Center for Lebanese Heritage at the Lebanese American University (LAU) and in partnership with Hanns Seidel Foundation, the round-tables event on poetry, Zajal and music on June 16,2023.
People of all ages joined us at the CISH premises for a day filled with heritage, exchanging knowledge and most importantly lots of Zajal and Poetry in relation with inter-cultural dialogue, women empowerment and peace building.
Dr. Darina Saliba Abi Chedid Director of CISH-UNESCO and the Lebanese Poet and director of the Center for Lebanese Heritage at LAU, Dr. Henry Zgheib both highlighted the importance of this event during their opening notes. Knowing that Al- Zajal is on UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Dr. Abi Chedid and Dr. Zgheib mentioned that it is important to preserve this heritage since it connects us to our history and helps us maintain our unique identity and promote dialogue and peace.
Grade four students from Frères Maristes College Champville also performed Zajal proving that the future generation is still attached to our roots.
